Is Your Cat Not Drinking Enough Water? Read this!

Do you feel that your cat isn’t drinking enough water? In that case there are a few things you can do.

Here are some useful tips on how to make your cat drink more water:

  1. Try giving your cat mineral water (if you gave your cat tap water until now)
  2. Cook up some homemade chicken soups for your cat to drink.  That will make your cat have some moisture and liquid. (See our homemade cat food recipes!)
  3. Add some water to your cats dry cat food. Some cats love this very much! While some others don’t. Just try it out and see.
  4. Mash some ground meat up with some water and carrots, potatoes perhaps and other tasty things. Make sure there’s lots of water for your kitty to drink in the soup!
  5. Ah, yes! I almost fergot, as disgusting as this may seem to you and me our cats simply LOVE this: When you get a turkey from the supermarket or from the butchers, keep the blood from the meat and place it on a dish for your kitty. I know that some cat owners will twist their faces in disgust, but please remember, our cats where wild, and ARE wild in their genes. They LOVE Blood!!
  6. Give your cat some egg. Must be as fresh as possible! No eggs that are hanging around in the fridge please. FRESH is the word.
  7. Put some Ice cubes in your cats food or near it. Many cats will lick at it, especially on hot summers’ day!
  8. Cat Drinking Fresh from Tap

Some Cats absolutely LOVE tap water, it gives them the feeling of water dripping like in nature and of rivers and streams. So try putting your cat up onto the sink or counter and see what he wants to do from there. Let your cat sniff around first, before turning on the water!
Beware to only turn a bit of the water on, like a gentle dribble to avoid your kitty getting scared! If she or he drinks from it, you can let it flow a bit faster. Some cats will love to play with the water and wharf it around, so be sure to have a towel at hand. Oh, yeah, and clean the sink before your cat jumps into it!

  9. Did you know that cats that eat dry food drink more than cats that eat wet cat food? Think about that…
  10. If all this hasn’t worked for you and your cat, than maybe your cat just doesn’t like standing water, that might have flies and dirt inside of it. You might want to try a automatic water dispenser for your cat, which is extremely helpful if you are going away for a long time sometimes or working for many hours. Your cat can then have fresh, clean water all the time and never have too little to drink!
